Heed the call of nature and

leave it all behind.

Leave it to us!

PDX Waterfall Tours began with a family hike. After our founder took his visiting relatives to a nearby waterfall, he realized many visitors lack transportation or local knowledge to experience Oregon's natural beauty. Inspired by his family’s joy and the breathtaking scenery, he created a touring service to make the stunning waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest easily accessible to all.

Our mission is to connect visitors with the stunning natural beauty of Oregon by providing hassle-free, car-free access to one of its most breathtaking waterfalls.

About

Horsetail Falls

Ponytail Falls with open-faced cave

Your adventure begins at Horsetail Falls, where you can start by descending the stairs to the plunge pool at the bottom of the waterfall. You can visit the plunge pool either before or after your hike, as you'll return to this starting point. Horsetail Falls, nestled in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, captivates with its elegant 176-foot cascade, gracefully resembling a horse's flowing tail.

From there, a ~0.5-mile incline hike leads to Ponytail Falls, where you can walk behind the waterfall and through a giant open-faced cave—an experience unique to this trail. Continue another 0.5 miles to a viewpoint overlooking the majestic Horsetail Creek floodplain and the Columbia River. We recommend turning around at Ponytail Falls or the floodplain viewpoint to complete your journey within two hours, but your pace, timing, and distance are entirely up to you. We simply ask that you are ready to be picked up 2 hours after drop-off at the drop-off/pick-up location.

The hike from Horsetail Falls to the one-mile mark on the trail involves an incline. The total elevation gain over this distance is approximately 400 feet (120 meters). The trail is well-maintained, but hikers should be prepared for some uphill walking.

1. Stay on Designated Trails: For your safety and the preservation of the natural environment, please remain on marked trails at all times. Straying from the path can lead to dangerous areas and disturb local wildlife. This is a main trail and there will likely be other hikers around if an emergency should occur.

2. Hydrate and Prepare: Bring appropriate clothing and footwear for the hike. Even though we provide a bottle of water, consider bringing additional hydration and snacks. Weather conditions can change rapidly, so dress in layers.

3. Respect Nature and Wildlife: Do not disturb plants or wildlife. Keep a safe distance from animals and refrain from feeding them. Leave no trace by carrying out all trash and belongings.

4. Sign the Waiver: Before departure, all participants must sign a waiver acknowledging the inherent risks of hiking and touring. This ensures that you understand and agree to the terms and conditions of the tour.
